Blarney Stone - The Stone Of Eloquence. A Must See For Those Who Need  To Improve Their Eloquency

In Ireland, eight kilometers north of the city of Cork you will find Blarney Castle, home of the famous Blarney stone. The stone is traditionally believed to give whoever kisses it the gift of eloquent speech.

For many centuries world statesmen, novel writers and journalists have joined the millions of pilgrims climbing the steps to kiss the Blarney Stone and gain the gift of eloquence. Its powers are unquestioned but why does the stone possess such a magical power?

Perhaps one of the explanations is that the place is mysterious place with ancient stones and trees that were used by the druids.

Another explanation involves the builder of Blarney Castle, Cormac Laidir MacCarthy. The goddess Cl?odhna, the Queen of the Banshees and the fairies told him to kiss the first stone he found in the morning on his way to court. He was involved in a lawsuit, appealed to Cl?odhna for her assistance. The builder did so; he pleaded his case with great eloquence and won. Then MacCarthy incorporated the stone into the parapet of the castle.

The synonymy of "blarney" with "empty flattery" suggests that Queen Elizabeth I requested an oath of loyalty to retain occupancy of land. The responses she received from Cormac Teige McCarthy, the Lord of Blarney amounted to subtle diplomacy, and promised loyalty to the Queen without "giving in." Elizabeth proclaimed that McCarthy was giving her "(a lot of) blarney."

To kiss the stone is not an easy task. One has to lean backwards, holding on to an iron railing. The prize is worth the efforts as the stone bestows the gift of eloquence.
Blarney Castle today is a very popular tourist attraction.

If you intend to start writing a novel, your blog or become a member of the Parliament, why don't you enhance your eloquency?  Just in case.
I've already included it to my Bucket List.
